Dr. Swenson’s awareness of the importance of compassion and communication while providing dental care began at a young age. Her older brother was born with cerebral palsy, and her family struggled to find a dental home for her brothers’ needs. With this personal experience in mind, Dr. Swenson is committed to providing quality and compassionate comprehensive care to all of her patients no matter their limitations.
Dr. Swenson grew up in the Clearwater-Annandale area. Upon graduation from the University of Minnesota- Morris, Dr. Jenna Swenson wasn’t certain where her degree in Biology would take her. She accepted a position working in Immunology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, which she held for 4 years. At this same time, Dr. Swenson was also a student studying Immunology at Mayo Graduate School.
In Dr. Swenson’s spare time she completed volunteer work at a community clinic that provided medical and dental care. Volunteering at this community clinic was truly life-changing and rewarding. It was here she realized that her true calling was a career in dentistry.
Dr. Jenna Swenson graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry in 2013. While at the U of MN she was the student representative to the Minnesota Dental Association Elderly and Special Needs Committee and the chair of the MN American Student Dental Association Elementary Outreach Committee.
Following dental school, she completed a one year General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis where she gained experience in oral surgery, hospital-based dentistry and dental sleep medicine treating patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
Through her work in the community and the VA Hospital, Dr. Swenson cultivated her desire to work closely with her patients, making them comfortable by listening and responding to their concerns. She feels strongly about educating and informing her patients. She takes time to explain procedures and options to patients in an easy to understand way. In addition, she understands that we all have unique and individual needs and by taking time to discuss treatment we are able to be partners in maintaining dental health.
Dr. Swenson is committed to promoting dental health in people with special needs and to that end, hopes to continue volunteer work with organizations like “Special Smiles” in addition to her continued volunteer work with “Give Kids a Smile“.
She’s excited to be a part of the Minnehaha Falls Family Dental Clinic family, where staff take time to listen to patients without being pressured by the clock.
Dr. Swenson is a member of the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is also a member of Twin Cities Pankey study group. Also, Dr. Swenson is a certified Invisalign provider.
